Chinese Lifeline Feasibility Study

Bridging Hope Charity Foundation partnered with the Lifeline Research Foundation and DiverseWerks to establish the feasibility of a Chinese language Lifeline service in Australia. The project explored the need for such a service within the Chinese Australian community, as well as cultural appropriateness for delivery of mental health and wellbeing support services and activities, in particular suicide prevention supports.

The aims of the project were to:

  • Establish the crisis support needs of Chinese Australians
  • Examine the cultural outlook on mental health and wellbeing (including suicidality) and current help seeking practices including existing services and community supports
  • Assess community preferences for services and activities
  • Identify the communication, marketing and community engagement required to present mental health and wellbeing, and suicide prevention services to Chinese Australians
  • Nominate factors that are critical to the effectiveness and success of service design and delivery for mental health and wellbeing, and suicide prevention services to Chinese Australians
